Tamar Black Rotchin is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Montreal. She earned her BFA in Fine Arts from Concordia University in 2024, specializing in Painting and Drawing. Tamar’s practice spans painting, drawing, comics, and animation, and is driven by an impulse to reconcile complex internal experiences—including mental illness, sexuality, insecurity, and self-image—with the external frameworks of societal judgment and normative expectations.

Her creative process is intuitive and open-ended, embracing uncertainty as a means to explore and express vulnerability, dissociation, and emotional complexity. Through her work, Tamar interrogates and challenges entrenched societal taboos, while destabilizing conventional binaries of beauty and morality. By highlighting the fluidity and subjectivity of perception, her art seeks to reveal the nuanced and often contradictory dimensions of human experience, fostering empathy and connection through shared, universal truths.
